Two nests were found at the base of hedges on East Coombe farm at the end of November - both thought to be harvest mouse nests. On December 16th, Devon Mammal Group's head of the Harvest Mouse project came to see the nests and to look for more. The first nest found in November turned out to be a dormouse nest - very exciting, as dormice are an EU protected species. We then found 4 harvest mouse nests in the base of a hedge in another field, including solitary and breeding nests. We have set up a camera trap where these nests were found (all within a few metres of each other), and await some photographic evidence.
